Meaningful Beauty

For over 40 years, Unilever’s Dove brand was a well-known premium soap. In 2002,
they were preparing to expand the success of their moisturizing bar into their major
line of ‘face care’ products.

 

What is meaningful to Dove?
Becoming the #1 mass retail beauty brand.

 

Using a “Think, Do & Use” framework, we executed numerous innovations according to Dove’s long-term strategy to connect with consumers at retail. We helped Dove manage development risks by building a range of POP devices to help guide women to the right products for their skin.

 

The Dove Mirror is an easy-to-use skin assessment tool in the form of a beauty mirror. It asks 5 simple questions about her skin and then recommends a customized skin care regime. A cost effective way to provide custom skin solutions on a mass-market level.

 

The HLB team envisioned, and implemented concepts for shelf mounted and stand-alone kiosks. We created a mirror that provides feedback for the shelf-mounted POP devices and explored various types of light sources that would allow images of product to appear on its surface. We examined power sources and means of power management to allow service-free reliability reducing cost and time to maintain the unit.

 

Positioned near the skin care aisle in retailers such as Wal-Mart and Target, the Dove Kiosk was conceived to provide a sophisticated assessment tool with an enhanced “Sun Damage” evaluation.

  • - Prints out a regime that is “right for her”

 

We designed, built and tested six functional prototypes with multiple light sources for sun damage analysis. The hardware, software and user interface were all
integrated to create a high-end digital imaging kiosk.

The Dove mirror has been honored with the Design Of The Times ’04 Distinction, by the In-Store Marketing Institute and P.O.P. Since 2002, we have helped Dove succeed with their vision including the development of their new and successful packaging as part of the Dove Campaign for Real Beauty
