Impact of Cultures on Aesthetics & Design
posted by hcotton at 11:23 AM
Values within countries, linked by language and religion, move from survival to postmodern with a rise in GDP and subsequent political stability. Will personal aesthetics change at a parallel rate? How will cultures with large income disparity choose to integrate aesthetics and design within their social agendas? (see International Herald Tribune article on Design in India, Dec. 19, 2004).
Will second generation immigrants living outside of their cultures experience a backlash as they try to understand the cultures where they originated or will the country in which they are living accept and integrate their culture (such as the leadership of Latin artists in the music scene in the US)?
Which countries and to what degree (the US, although traditional in nature, has a history of immigration while Denmark, postmodern in terms of values, is still very conservative in terms of immigration policy)? What are your thoughts?
