Design of the Times Honors HLB, Unilever with Gold Medal For Dove Face Care Mirror
posted by hdittmer at 5:22 PM
Chicago, IL - The In-Store Marketing Institute announced recently that Herbst LaZar Bell Inc (HLB) and Unilever have won a Gold Medal for the Dove Face Care Mirror in the Design of the Times 04 Awards Competition. This oval-shaped mirror, which appears on retail shelves around the U.S., uses consumers input to analyze skin type and recommend a personalized regime of Dove face care products. The Dove Face Care Mirror represents the first-of-its-kind, interactive, electronic, point-of-purchase display in this product category.
The interactive powered interface of this level of sophistication has never existed before in the POP world, said Mark Dziersk, HLB Senior Vice President of Design. Nothing like this has ever been attempted much less executed, before. We felt honored that this competition recognized the innovation in the Dove Face Care Mirror.
Consumers are attracted to the vanity-inspired shape of this mirror and asked to respond to a series of simple visual prompts, such as age and skin tone, according to the designers. The unit then analyzes the data and presents digital images in the mirror of products specifically suited to the consumers skin-care needs. The goal of this project was to provide a diagnostic service previously found only in expensive department stores, and direct consumers to appropriate Dove face care products, offering both cost and time savings.
Hundreds of in-store solutions went head-to-head against one another in this competition to determine the Bronze, Silver and Gold award winners, which included 16 retail categories and 14 display types. The entries were first judged by more than 100 leading marketing and retailing executives who convened in Chicago in August to evaluate the entries for Phase I of the judging process. Final judging occurred on September 21 and 22 on the floor of The P-O-P Show/Chicago, a conference of brand marketers, POP producers, designers and retailers from around the world. All entries were displayed in the Design of the Times Gallery at The P-O-P Show.
Winners were announced and honored during the Design of the Times Awards Reception on Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the Keynote Theater at Navy Pier. Additional information on these awards and a complete listing of the award winners is available on the In-Store Marketing Institute web site (www.instoremarketer.org) or The P-O-P Show web site (www.popshow.com).
Design of the Times is presented by P-O-P Magazine and is an official event of the In-Store Marketing Institute. The 2004 competition was sponsored by Design Display Group Inc. , Lingo Manufacturing Corp., Mechtronics Corp., New Dimensions Research Corp. and Wetzel Brothers.
