Six “Good Design” Awards Presented to HLB
posted by at 11:13 AM
Chicago, IL – Herbst LaZar Bell (HLB), the internationally recognized product design consultancy, announced recently that it has won six 2005 Good Design awards, presented by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. This marks the second time in as many years that HLB has claimed six of the top honors at this prestigious event. This year, the following products have received the Good Design distinction:
• Thermique™ Towel Warmer
• Bionaire BAP 1500 Room Air Purifier
• The Sunbeam Iron (Model #4214)
• Le Creuset Silicone Balloon Wisk
• CVS Speed 3 3-Blade Razor
• The Embrace Heart Stabilizer
The Thermique™ Towel Warmer is an elegant alternative to traditional radiator towel warmers. This innovative product mounts to the wall, while offering quick warm-up and consistent heat control. The Thermique™ technology achieves a uniform heating surface across the entire pane of glass through the use of invisible thin film conductors.
The Bionaire BAP 1500 Room Air Purifier is a high efficiency, easily maintainable room air cleaner that delivers purified air at a level above dusty floors and carpeting, and closer to the level at which people breathe. It also supplies a large amount of filtered air using a small footprint that allows flexibility in the placement of the unit within a room.
The Sunbeam Iron stands apart in a sea of commodities, with aesthetic and functional features that address consumer desires in a beautiful package. Features include a retractable cord and exaggerated tip to reach difficult areas when ironing. Safety is paramount in this iron, with a three-way auto shut off, a drip-free feature even at low temperatures, and self-cleaning to prevent touching the sole plate.
The Le Creuset Silicone Balloon Whisk is more durable and sanitary than typical products in its category, but also easy to clean and able to withstand the harsh environment of the kitchen (high heat, grease and oils). The handle is ergonomically sculpted so the whisk is positioned for optimal movement in the bowl. The whisk is probably the most fundamental and yet environmentally friendly tool in the kitchen, as the only power source required are human hands.
The CVS Speed 3 3-Blade Razor is a low-cost, highly innovative razor backed by extensive consumer research with an equal appeal and a similar design for men and women. It contains a slim profile, sculpted handle and three-blade design to provide an ultra-close shave. Both male and female razor grips are addressed in one design.
The Embrace Heart Stabilizer assists surgeons in positioning the heart and stabilizing the coronary artery during “beating-heart” coronary bypass surgery. It also serves as a stable frame for mounting other instruments during this life-saving procedure. This stabilization allows surgeons to bypass the blocked artery without resorting to the traditional method of stopping the heart and employing a heart/lung machine.
Founded in 1950 by Edgar J. Kaufman, Jr. Good Design is the “world's oldest and most celebrated awards program that bestows international recognition upon designers and manufacturers for advancing new and innovative product concepts and originality - and for stretching the envelope beyond what is considered standard product and consumer design,” according to the Museum curators. The award publicly acknowledges and elevates the best and finest new design and design innovation for products and graphics. For more information on the Good Design awards, visit the Museum’s website (www.chi-athenaeum.com). All winners will be posted on December 31.
