Chicago, IL. – Herbst LaZar Bell Inc. (HLB), the internationally recognized product design consultancy, announced recently that Walter Herbst, Chairman and Co-founder, will serve as one of the faculty members at the upcoming Managing Product Design and Development Seminar. Mr. Herbst, who's also a Clinical Professor at Northwestern is one of the presenters in a class titled, “Introduction to Product Development.” This prestigious event will take place at Northwestern University’s James L. Allen Center from March 12-15.

“This is a watershed event,” added Herbst. “While there have been other educational seminars on this subject, the Northwestern program brings the expertise of the proven faculty that teach in the two year Master of Science Program for Product Development.”

Herbst and other leading faculty members from Northwestern’s Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science and Kellogg School of Management will team with industry experts, using real-world case studies and group workshops to illustrate the frameworks discussed in the program. Seminar topics include Strategy in Design, Communication Challenges in Product Development, and Innovation and Creativity.

The Managing Product Design and Development Conference is an intense three-day certificate program designed for product development professionals who have either technical or marketing backgrounds, and whose organizations will benefit most from a robust product development process. Participants will gain skills in a multitude of areas, including identifying opportunities in the product development process, acquiring techniques to enhance creativity, and understanding the value of design as strategy.

The 11-class certificate course is a mini version of the two-year, part time Northwestern program that leads to a Master of Science in Product Development. According to Herbst, “This two-year program is the premier product development master’s program in the US.” For more information, visit the Northwestern MPD website (www.mpd.northwestern.edu).
