Chicago, IL. – Herbst LaZar Bell Inc. (HLB), the internationally recognized product design firm, announced recently that Scott McManigal has joined the company as Managing Director of their California studio. In this new role, Mr. McManigal is responsible for setting the trajectory for growth and the development of creative value, as well as all aspects of the studio’s operations.
“Over the last several years, under the leadership of Jonas Brickus who is transferring to our Boston office, our California business has experienced substantial growth,” stated Ford Pearson, CEO of HLB. “We are excited to have Scott assume the Managing Director position as we are confident he will continue to raise our profile and build our business on the West Coast.”
Mr. McManigal brings over 17 years of expertise in product development for the consumer, medical, automotive and transportation industries. He most previously worked for BMW Group Designworks/USA, where he was instrumental in advancing the company’s position in the marketplace and doubling its size and revenue. During this tenure, he served as Director of Product Development, Director of Engineering and Senior Product Engineer, cultivating new business relationships and developing products and innovative solutions for leading global corporations including Microsoft, Rubbermaid, Allergan, K2, Motorola, and John Deere.
Prior to that, Mr. McManigal served as a Project Engineer for Mattel Toys, where he designed and developed many high volume products in the Hot Wheels and Activity Toys divisions. He also worked at Patton Design Enterprises as a Senior Industrial Designer, providing industrial design and engineering solutions for clients such as Apple, Mitsubishi and Hitachi.
In addition, Mr. McManigal worked at the San Francisco General Hospital as a Design Engineer, funded by a Federal OSHA grant. There, he analyzed, explored and designed products and solutions to reduce incidents of medical professional exposure to AIDS and hepatitis infected body fluids. He participated in in-depth field research and observation that lead to publishing identified solutions for future implementation by the medical equipment industry.
Mr. McManigal received his B.A. in Product Design from Stanford University. He has been the recipient of numerous utility and design patents, as well as design awards for ID Magazine, IF, Good Design, IDEA, and Red Dot.
